Dave Smith rappels into a deep crevasse on the ascent of the north face of the Dent d'Herens in 1973. This deep crevasse cut across the face from one side to the other, and it was necessary to descend into the crevasse then climb the 30 metre overhanging upper lip to continue the climb.

In the early 1970s American alpinist Matt Hale and I climbed the north face of the Aiguille du Triolet in the French Alps. It was a fabulous route – 1000 m high set at about 55 degrees.

In 1977 Laurie Skreslet introduced me to waterfall ice climbing. I took this shot of Laurie on our first climb together, The Professor Falls near Banff.
